Project Summary:

In May 2015, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded a five (5)-year contract to Management Systems International (MSI) to provide performance management support to USAID-sponsored development programs throughout Pakistan. The Performance Management Support Contract (PERFORM) serves as a centralized management support mechanism that provides services in (1) monitoring, (2) evaluation, (3) assessment, and (4) learning support. PERFORM provides data and information to help USAID/Pakistan project managers improve results through better implementation, design, and learning, enabling it to better target its programming and achieve its goals and objectives .

Position Summary:

MSI is recruiting a short-term field researcher to work as part of a team of local consultants to monitor the USAID/Pakistan Agricultural Market Development (AMD) Project.

The AMD Project supports the development of internal and external markets for a variety of Pakistan's agricultural products. These products include mangoes, citrus, high value and off-season vegetables, and livestock. AMD supports farmer groups and supply-chain businesses through grants to upgrade the quality of the agricultural products at all levels of the supply chain to make them more profitable and competitive in international markets. The project also has a gender component, aimed at increasing the participation of women in the agricultural sector. The project is being implemented across the provinces of Sindh and Punjab.

The duration of this assignment is April 2018 through September 2019.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a team planning workshop in Islamabad to understand the monitoring purpose and methodology, data collection instruments, and the data collection and analysis plans.
  • Assist in drafting data collection plans.
  • Participate in key informant interviews and complete observation checklists.
  • Take comprehensive and high-quality notes during interviews and transcribe and translate notes in English in accordance with the required format.
  • Write minutes of the meetings wherever applicable and submit them to the assignment manager.
  • Improve or amend translations/transcriptions in line with feedback provided by the sector specialist, team leader, or assignment manager.
  • Enter data within two days of data collection as per the instructions of the team leader and/or the assignment manager.
  • Undertake other tasks as assigned by the assignment manager for the successful completion of the assignment.

Qualifications:

  • At least a master's degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • Excellent MS Excel skills required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the country.
  • Excellent analytical and personal communication skills.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
