Project Summary:
Increased Demand and Engagement for Accountability (IDEA) is a 4.5-year USAID funded activity to strengthen the civil society sector working in all regions of Sri Lanka on national and local governance issues, and to build capacities of CSOs and networks. One of the objectives of the project is to support civil society advocacy to advance good governance and rights promotion. Towards this end, IDEA supports local civil society organizations through sub-grants.

Position Summary:
MSI is recruiting a full-time Communication and Knowledge Management Officer to play a key role in ensuring that IDEA produces communication material for learning, advocacy and reporting. The Communications Officer will produce multi-media content that are evidence-based, useful and meet stipulated quality standards. Under the direction of IDEA's Chief of Party and Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist the Communications and Knowledge Management Officer will develop templates and products to enhance the accessibility and usefulness of the information produced under IDEA for internal and external stakeholders. The Communication Officer will also provide some support to partner institutions engaged in advocacy work and ensure greater reach for effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
Work with the IDEA's COP and Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist to develop communication products as required
Work closely with the Knowledge Management and Communications Specialist in the preparation and layout of IDEA quarterly and annual reports
Gather and synthesize information for specialized deliverables to USAID. e.g., Most significant Change Stories (MSCs), learning summaries, success stories, infographics and snapshots
Provide support and advise to selected partners on their communication efforts to creatively advance advocacy and outreach objectives
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English, law, communications, journalism, mass communication, social science, or a related area is preferred
Minimum of three years of professional experience as a Communications Officer in an NGO or a copy editor, journalist, communications specialist or other similar experience
Prior experience working on international development programs in Sri Lanka, particularly with UN/INGOs or any development partner, and in-depth knowledge of country context and development issues required
Experience producing multi-media information products for a variety of target audiences under timelines is required
Demonstrated skills presenting human interest stories and the impact of our work
Strong attention to detail
Proficiency in required software and platforms
Experience using current software packages for data visualization, infographics, presentations and use of social media platforms for communications preferred
Strong understanding of gender and diversity considerations
Willingness to travel
Verbal and written English language skills and one national (Sinhala/Tamil) language required
Proficiency in a second national language preferred
