Project Summary:

OBIRODH will provide support to activities aimed at fostering an inclusive and tolerant Bangladesh. This project will be based in Dhaka. This position is open to local nationals.

**Please note: Only Bangladeshi citizens are eligible for this position.

Position Summary:
This position includes completing a landscape survey of selected completed and ongoing research that is pertinent to political violence (PV) and violent extremism (VE) in Bangladesh. The expected level of effort (LOE) is 21 days, to be completed between October 13 – November 6, 2017.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify individuals and institutions that are working on PV and VE in Bangladesh, drawing on works written in both English and Bangla.

  • Delineate and group together broad VE themes such as drivers for militant radicalization; narratives that violent extremist organizations (VEOs) are using for recruitment purposes; and communal resiliencies that might serve to mitigate the push/pull dynamics associated with the draw to VE.

  • Determine principal gaps in the literature that could inform future research directions/preventing violent extremism (PVE) programming activities undertaken under the auspices of OBIRODH.

Deliverables:

  • Bibliography of ongoing/completed PV and VE work in Bangladesh.

  • 10-15 page briefer summarizing the current state of VE research in Bangladesh (including an executive summary highlighting key insights/findings from the literature).

  • The creation of an Excel spreadsheet containing the details of principal institutions and individuals working on PV and VE in Bangladesh.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) in political science or international relations.

  • Thorough knowledge of PV, VE and PVE, particularly as it applies to the Bangladeshi context.

  • Fluency in English and Bangla (written and oral).

  • Computer competency (Word and Excel).
