Proposal Summary: **

USAID's Office of Water is planning to fund a five-year project that supports the Agency's efforts to increase water security, sanitation, program communication, engagement, knowledge curation and sharing, as well as website management. The objective is to share information and knowledge internally and externally among a wide range of external stakeholders working in the water and sanitation sector and to enhance communication and outreach using multiple channels and approaches geared toward diverse audiences and stakeholders.

Position Summary and Responsibilities:

MSI is seeking a Communications Manager will help to oversee a small team and short-term consultants who will work to increase awareness and understanding of the USAID/Office of Water's efforts and activities under the U.S. Government's Global Water Strategy and associated plans. The selected candidate will lead a learning agenda across a wide spectrum of stakeholders to increase the effectiveness of development programming and foster sustainability. This work will call for integrated expertise in communications strategy implementation, including high-impact writing and storytelling across a range of digital and traditional platforms (e.g., social media, websites, e-newsletters, annual reports, fact sheets), stakeholder engagement, capacity building of partners, and internal and external engagement . They will be responsible for overseeing and contributing to the production of the Global Waters magazine, Globalwaters.org blog, annual report and all internal reporting deliverables. In addition to ensuring quality control for publications, the Communications Manager will develop outreach and dissemination plans for high-profile publications, contribute to content development of Globalwaters.org, and assist in the production of diverse outreach materials. The position is based in the Washington, D.C. metro area although remote work options are possible.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, communications or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in transforming complex technical materials into various types of clear, concise content that is aligned with different target audiences and their levels of subject matter familiarity, including for websites, newsletters and annual reports, required.
  • Experience working with an integrated communications and knowledge management team across a large portfolio.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Experience applying metrics to improve results required.
  • Experience working on water, sanitation or hygiene projects strongly preferred.
  • Experience working on USAID projects or with the private sector preferred.
  • Experience with stakeholder outreach and coordination (e.g., academia, private sector, nongovernmental organizations) preferred.
