Project Summary:

This three-year USAID Central Africa Regional Third-Party Monitoring (CART) project will establish independent, impartial, timely, responsive, contextualized, and forward-looking third-party monitoring (TPM) and operational support services. CART will provide a comprehensive range of verification and outcome monitoring, and learning services that will increase FFP's and its implementing partners' (IP) understanding of the outputs, outcomes, progress, challenges, successes, results, and lessons learned for both emergency and non-emergency activities within CAR, DRC and ROC. This project seeks to improve FFP's capability to utilize humanitarian assistance resources to ameliorate the drivers of poverty and malnutrition characterized by complex emergencies within the region.

Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist will participate in the full scope of strategic communication support tasks – including the development and production of information products and publications and reporting. The Communications Specialist will also provide technically accurate translations and editing of requested documents and verbal interpretation in French and English, as needed. The Communications Specialist will also be tasked with tasked with editing a variety of products, ensuring that they are free of errors and otherwise meet established quality expectations and branding requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the professional presentation and execution of communications products, services and contribute to systems to track metrics/indicators

  • Interpret complex, technical language and make it understandable for different audiences

  • Participate in and contribute to presentations at quarterly coordinating, strategy and performance review meetings

  • Translate written program documents and other materials into English and French

  • Ensure that translations of requested documents are consistent in terminology, syntax, and style

  • Conduct consecutive and simultaneous oral translation during meetings and data collection, ensuring that interpretation is technically accurate

  • Work with management to develop and maintain systems and workflows among the team that contribute to the effective management, organization and recall of communications products

  • To support the timely review and revision of project publications, products, event materials and official correspondence

  • Conduct other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, international development, communications or a similar field required

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated management and administrative skills

  • Have the capacity to work both independently as well as in a team setting

  • Willing to undertake field travel and work under demanding conditions

  • Ability to establish priorities and undertake assigned tasks with minimum supervision

  • Ability to effectively address multiple tasks

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)

  • Ability to quickly and accurately translate and interpret from French to English, and vice versa

  • Fluency in both English and French (written and verbal) is required
