Regional Manager – East Africa

The Regional Manager will have Overall responsibility of FIC East Africa regional secretariat including secretarial functions for the board and reporting to the NGO authorities and other relevant institutions.

Strategy - To drive forward the new five-year country strategy that embodies the values, vision, mission and objectives of Theatre for a Change and ensure it is being delivered in all areas of the organisation’s work, with new and existing partners.

Impact - To ensure that FIC, regional programmes are making significant positive impact for through delivering high quality livelihood and decent employment programmes and ensuring that the processes of planning, implementation as well as monitoring, evaluation and learning, are robust. Finance – To ensure that the financial management of the organisation is accountable and transparent at every level, and that all staff are fully aware and able to comply with the Finance Policy.

Key Deliverable:

Demonstrable and inspiring leadership in promoting the values, the vision, mission and goal of FIC and in the implementation of the East Africa Regional Strategy.

Demonstrate clearly a personal drive for social inclusion of marginalised and vulnerable social groups, including women, youth and low skilled workforce, with strong focus on human rights based approach (HRBA).

Lead the delivery of East Africa regional Strategy so that FIC staff are living the organisation’s values and achieving the vision, mission and objectives of, as well as supporting the overall FIC global mission

Lead the Organisational Management Team in making key decisions regarding the implementation of the strategy and overall direction

Lead the team in agreeing on the modalities for Programming, Finance and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) on each project.

Governance

Key Deliverable:

The Advisory Board of FIC provides direction and accountability to the East Africa Secretariat.

The Regional Manager regularly update and involve the Board in the work, progress and challenges of FIC, and supports in convening quarterly meetings or on need basis

Report to Directors on a regular basis against the organisational strategy, targets and budget and ensure that FIC complies with the high standards of probity and good governance

Ensure that the secretariat operates within the terms and conditions of all legal requirements of the Kenya Government.

Resources Mobilisation

Management of donor funds in close cooperation with finance manager and managing regional team in new funding and partnership opportunities

Programme Management

· Leading the East Africa team in overall programmes planning, budgeting and performance

· Technical lead in Development, monitoring, review and implementation

· Overall lead in Monitoring and evaluation of the regional programmes

· Management of consultants and consultancy processes

Partnership and social engagement

• Management of partnerships & networks for the region: County & local governments, private sector, employers and civil society partners, youth organizations and international partners

• Coordinating advocacy and influencing strategy on labour market and employment issues**

· Designing and managing partnership and network across all programmes with both local and international partners

· Trainings, coaching, development of action plans and making follow-ups on governance, structures and systems development, leadership and management for local partners

Advocacy and policy engagement

· Lead FIC and partners in advocacy and policy engagement for improvement of decent work to support programmes in Kenya, East Africa and globally

Academic qualifications

· Master’s degree in relevant discipline

Experience

· Minimum of 7 years’ experience in medium to senior level management within East Africa region.

· Proven track record in development and programme management with focus on social economic rights

· Solid experience working with civil society and in designing and implementing livelihood programs – with strong focus on employment and decent work

· Experience in organisation capacity development and training especially on governance and strategies

· Track record in the international donor community, partnership management and resources mobilisation, including demonstrated knowledge of EU and major donor regulations.

· Experience working with trade unions and workers issues in promoting decent working conditions is a plus

Related Skills or Knowledge:

· Prior experience managing a country or regional office. Ability and skills to promote and inspire effective collaboration between individuals, organizations and networks, demonstrating strong diplomacy skills and cultural sensitivity.

· Strong consultative, collaborative and participatory way of working. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills to meet the diverse technical and managerial requirements of the program and to effectively coordinate with a wide range of stakeholders.
TRAVEL: Travel required up to 50% of time

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Fluency in written and spoken English required. Swahili is additional advantage.
