Project Summary
The purpose of the Nigeria Monitoring Project (NMP) is to establish a third-party monitoring system to monitor, verify, and analyze trends on humanitarian programs in Nigeria funded by USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and the Office of Food for Peace (FFP). The program will create an independent and verifiable monitoring mechanism for OFDA and FFP programs in Nigeria that will increase OFDA, FFP, and their partners' understanding of the outputs, outcomes, processes, progress, quality, challenges, achievements, and lessons learned of their projects. The information and findings will be critical in ensuring program learning, program accountability, and beneficiary accountability, which will be useful for real time programmatic adjustments and future program design.
Position Summary
The Accountant will report directly to the Finance and Administration Specialist and the Chief of Party. The Accountant will ensure the financial integrity in all aspects of the program and manage all financial and accounting aspects of the project. The Accountant will support in budget planning and monitoring, maintaining timely and accurate financial information, and financial reporting to MSI HQ and USAID.

Responsibilities
- Support in budget planning and monitoring.
- Analyze financial data, define relevant information, and interpret data for purpose of determining past financial performance and future probability.
- Ensure adherence to USAID rules and regulations and Nigerian laws.
- Process bank and cash transactions, including reconciliations.
- Support payroll management (handled by a third-party), including knowledge of and calculation of payroll withholding taxes.
- Create and/or contribute to financial reports to USAID and MSI Home Office.
- Maintain project bookkeeping in the QuickBooks accounting platform and coordinate with the Home Office as needed.
- Assist in the registration of employment agreements, facilitating payroll, and coordinating payment of taxes.
- Maintain electronic and physical files in an organized and up-to-date manner.
- Monitor balance of available funds and prepare fund transfers as needed.
- Generate official documentation to support balances and declarations to be presented.
- As needed, prepare checks for payments to employees and local vendors.
- Prepare hard copy field expense report (FER) and submit both hard copy and scanned copies to MSI Home Office monthly.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting and finance management in Nigeria.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Demonstrated experience using Excel and QuickBooks
- High degree of maturity and ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners and vendors
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required
- Strong attention to detail, prioritization, and organizational skills required.
- Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred
