The role
Based in SeeBeyondBorders principal office in Cambodia, the Chief of Staff role is a full time position on a renewable one year contract reporting to the SeeBeyondBorders CEO.
The organisation
SeeBeyondBorders draws on the experience of a range of educational experts together with lessons learned across development, and post emergency contexts to design, implement and monitor quality education programming. Active in Cambodia since 2009, SeeBeyondBorders is considered to have some of the most cutting edge and innovative early grade education programs in the country.
The opportunity
As SeeBeyondBorders transitions from a grass roots organisation to one influencing the national education reform agenda, there is a need for a passionate, can-do, and highly organised individual to be a strong partner for the CEO and help facilitate the development of the organisation to the next level.
You will provide the communication framework for supporters, staff and the management team. The CEO will rely on you to troubleshoot and handle the daily needs of the organisation to allow him to put greater focus into the key strategies that will ensure it grows and develops further.
You will need to be very organized and work efficiently and effectively. You will be people oriented, objective, and communicate well with different personality types. You should have the ability to think ahead and catch problems before they arise while being willing to use your position and influence to lead from behind.
From this position you will have a bird’s eye view of the educational development landscape in Cambodia and of the different actors who hold key positions in that landscape. You will be in a position to influence and at times lead key initiatives on which the organisation will base its own development. To be successful you will need to relate to stakeholders with confidence, but with the humility to realise that it is not all about you.
Role and Responsibilities
This is a new position and the role will contain elements of both an executive assistant and a Chief Operating Officer. In particular the COS will:
§ Assist the CEO with prioritising his time and appointments supplying what he will need at each step in his schedule.
§ Help the CEO to complete priority items working to an appropriate level of quality.
§ Lead certain strategic initiatives and report results back to the CEO.
§ Assist the management team with developing and monitoring their annual operating plans, rescheduling or revising them as required based on their roles and responsibilities
§ Help with keeping direct reports accountable for their targets to assist the organisation meet its commitments to its stakeholders including staff, program beneficiaries and donors.
§ Coordinate key internal management meetings including Monday morning stand-up meetings, leadership team meetings, marketing, fundraising and communications (MFC) meetings. Manage meeting agendas and action items arising to ensure they are executed
§ As required, write first drafts of proposals, emails, letters etc.
§ Attend / facilitate meetings and calls on the behalf of the CEO in his absence, acting as his representative.
§ Act as the sounding board for new ideas and initiatives.
§ Act as the communication arm and facilitator for the CEO with other executives or key stakeholders and help them communicate wants, needs, concerns, ideas in an effective and efficient way.
§ Organise organisational calendars and keep track of multiple projects at the same time.
Qualificationsandexperience
You will be able to demonstrate considerable wisdom and experience in leadership roles. Qualified to the equivalent of Bachelor level or higher at an international standard, you will have at least 10 years working experience, including periods in other countries that are both developing and developed.
You particular background is not critical, but experience in consulting, operations, project management, education, the development sector and /or living and working in Asia, would be considerable advantages. Drawing from your career to date, you will be able to demonstrate how you have been pivotal to a team’s success and contributed to effective strategies. You will understand technology and how that can improve team efficiency and demonstrate an attention to detail and an ability to analyse data.
